Workbenches are necessary equipment for do-it-yourselfers and craftsmen. Ordinary office tables won’t do as these are usually not sturdy enough to take the loads involved with manual work. Also, their work often entails dust, oil, chemicals, and other dirt. You would not want these on your study desk, much less on the dining or kitchen table.
Workbenches may be designed for a specific work such as woodworking, metal working, gardening, and electronics work. Others are multi-purpose workbenches, such as the Little Giant Heavy-Duty Workbench BEM129.
The design of the BEM129 is simple. It features a large worktop with two drawers underneath and sturdy legs supporting a long shelf. The top is made of an extra-strong gauge 7 steel measuring 6 feet in width and 3 feet in depth. In spite of this thickness, about 0.18 inches or 4.5 mm, it is reinforced with steel bars to keep it from sagging under heavy loads. The edges of the top are rounded to soften their appearance and to blunt any sharp corners.
Two large drawers with measurements of 26″ W x 20″ D x 6″ H are installed below the worktop. At this size they can accommodate plenty of your hand tools and even electric as well as pneumatic tools. They run on heavy-duty rollers to make opening or closing easy even when filled to their capacity of 250 lbs. each. Padlock hasps are fitted on the left sides of the drawers allowing you to secure your tools.
The Little Giant Heavy-Duty Workbench BEM129 stands on angle steel legs with footpads. Anchor holes with a diameter of 5/8″ are drilled into the pads for securing the workbench to the floor. For added stability, gauge 7 gussets anchored to the legs are added to brace the worktop. Indeed, with this support you can load up to 10,000 lbs on the worktop.
Two horizontal angle bars reinforcing the front and rear legs also support a long open shelf for additional storage space. Here you can store cans of paint, oil, cleaning materials, and similar items with a cumulative weight of 500 lbs.
